• Elephant Adventures in Thailand
Ever wanted to get up close and personal with a pachyderm. Head for the Golden Triangle region, where Thailand, Laos and Burma meet. Though their numbers are dwindling, Asian elephants still roam wild across these lands.
In times past, the gentle giants were the backbone of the local teak logging industry. But these days, elephant owners are struggling to find the income to take care of the animals, and many have been sent to urban areas for entertainment purposes.
Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle, Thailand. The Camp offers rescued elephants the chance to live and thrive in a happy natural environment and gives humans the opportunity to have a once-in-a-lifetime animal encounter. Also memorable for two-legged guests are the Camp’s 15 luxurious tented accommodations, calling to mind the romantic era of 19th-century explorers.
Upon arrival, you will be presented a traditional mahout (elephant keeper) outfit. To follow, the Camp, under the guardianship of the Thai Elephant Conservation Centre, introduces you to some fundamental mahout skills. After learning about elephant bathing and feeding, you will practise the commands needed to drive the animal. Once you’ve mastered the basics, your reward is unforgettable days spent trekking with your elephant through tropical Thai jungles.
