Diets were formulated using the “ideal protein concept,” such that the ratio of each essential amino acid to lysine was equal to, or greater than, the soft tissue amino acid values for greenlip abalone (Coote et al., 2000). Diets contained ~3.6% lipid (Dunstan et al., 2000; Van Barneveld et al., 1998), and ~17. 4MJkg−1 crude and~12.5MJkg−1 digestible energy levels. The results of this study will contribute towards the development of diets suitable for early weaned abalone at different water temperatures and the formulation of appropriate abalone diets for each grow-out stage through out the abalone production cycle.
