The misunderstanding that white skin is prior to dark complexion is based on psychological and social aspects. Firstly, bright colours clearly involve with daytime which is full of light, whereas dark colours are connected closely to nighttime which has no light. Psychologically, high amount of light triggers positive feelings such as happiness, success or satisfaction. Thus, people generally like bright colours and logically they prefer those who have a white skin. Secondly, on social scales, alongside the development of human civilization, knowledgeable people such as scholars, professionals generally work indoor. On the other hand, manual labour who has a lower social status has to work outdoor. Due to long-time exposure to sunlight, their skins get tanned and black. Thus, there is a strong connection between people with swarthy complexion and low social status. Similarly, those who have white skin are believed to secure high social positions.
