2.5. Risk assessment methodology
The final goal of the harbour OS is to provide useful information to
the harbour environmental managers. In particular, the aim is to
produce risk maps of water quality degradation due to accidental
spills for all the activities in the harbour under particular hydrodynamic
conditions. The methodology is described completely in Grifoll
et al. (2010) and here we only point out the basic ideas. In that
method, an Index of Risk (IR) is computed at all the points of the
harbour for each potential pollutant source. The IR is a function of four
