A number of limitations require consideration. The sample size
was relatively small (n¼43), but comparable to other studies
(n¼41; see Brown et al., 2001). However, the analyses exploring
the predictive validity of the IPQ-R and effects of a past history of
depression on illness perceptions were underpowered. Caution is
also required when interpreting the study’s analyses as the use of
multiple comparisons increased the potential risk of statistically
significant results being obtained by chance. Studies with larger
samples are required to further support the findings of this study.
