4-9.3 Ductile Mode of Behavior in the Close-in Design Range
Close-in detonations produce non-uniform, high intensity blast load. Extremely highpressureconcentrations are developed which, in turn, can produce local (punching)failure of an element. To maintain the structural integrity of elements subjected to theseloads and to permit the large deflections necessary to balance the kinetic energyproduced, lacing reinforcement has been developed.
