Nurse Manager Role:
The RN Manager serves as leader, role model, change agent, and operational manager of the clinical and financial activities for the Spinal Cord Unit. Oversees the provision of individualized patient care consistent with the mission and values of University of Maryland Rehabilitation and Orthopaedic Institute and in accordance within the scope of practice, professional, and regulatory standards. Accountable to leadership, health care team, patients and families for all processes and outcomes of in-patient Rehab Unit. Provides nursing leadership within the interdisciplinary team.
Service Overview:
The Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Program provides intensive acute inpatient rehabilitation services to patients with Spinal Cord Injuries/dysfunction (SCI/D) as a result of traumatic and non-traumatic etiology. This may include patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) or Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS). The length of stay for this program ranges between 2- 12 weeks with the average length of stay of 25 days patients with Paraplegia 26 days for patients with Tetraplegia. 
The unit is in operation 24 hours a day, with 24-hour specialized rehabilitation nursing care. Therapies are provided from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Program shares physical space with the Multiple Trauma/Orthopedic Rehabilitation Program. It consists of 32 nursing-care beds, with each patient receiving a minimum of three hours of therapy per day
