Market Appraisal
The Utah project was stimulated by two major events in the U.S. Southwest . The first was a considerable effort to reactivate the deep oil wells in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Nevada. The technology behind this approach was to inject high temperature steam down old drill wells and then to pump out the crude that emerged from the strata. This required the installation of thousands of metres of “sucker rod,” a two centimeter diameter steel rod that literally “sucked” the oil to the surface using a pump located deep in the oil reservoir.
