Done well, co-op can strengthen an institutions financial standing, not only through direct income but also through being recognized by the business world and investment companies as engaged and receptive to outside stakeholders. In addition, there are strong indications that co-op builds better student academic results because of the connections made between theory and practice, which adds meaning and understanding to student’s knowledge, and thus performance improves. The latter may also be a factor in enhanced self-esteem gained through the experience of the co-op placement.
