And the bad news.
It is with a heavy heart that we are bringing this news to you today. Due to the YouTube policy changes, now it would be impossible to download videos in 480p and 1080p resolutions.
A while back YouTube started to use DASH format (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) for 1080p and 480p videos. DASH is an adaptive bitrate streaming technology where a multimedia file is partitioned into one or more segments and delivered to a client using HTTP. This is where it got tricky. Now instead of single multimedia file, there are at least 2 separate files: one with the audio line and the other - video. So at the moment we'll do what we can: first of all we'll add the facility to download both audio/video files for 480p and 1080p clips. Also we'll be looking into the possibility of automatically merging audio and video files into a single one with ffmpeg or similar tools, but as it seems right now chances are slim.
Rest assured we are on this matter and will do our best to create a viable solution for our users to work with DASH files as soon as possible.
Stay tuned!
