Excellent work is not, however, valued by everyone. Most of us have come across managers who seem threatened by the good work of subordinate. They fear that another person’s efforts will somehow make them look bad, and so they discourage excellence in many subtle and not-so-subtle ways. Managers have a lot of influence over their employee and are responsible for bringing out the best in each. An excellent worker with a threatened manager, though, may find the going too rough under these circumstances and decide that they would be best served by finding employee elsewhere.
Self-preservation is sometime the only avenue open to us.
