Cleaner production (CP) aims to reduce waste, generate new
products and reduce energy and water usage as a contribution
to the LCA of the FPI and has been defined as, “the
continuous application of an integrated, preventive, environmental
strategy applied to processes, products and services
to increase overall efficiency and reduce risk to humans and
the environment” (UNEP, 2000). A similar approach is that of,
“eco-efficiency”, which recognises the need for sustainable
exploitation of renewable natural resources, such as for food
production.
