Two formulations of crystalline cerium oxide nano particles of
varying particle sizes, an in-house synthesized and a commercially
available material, were incorporated into PTFE-supported composite
perfluorosulfonic acid hydrogen fuel cell membranes and coated with
a platinum on carbon catalyst. These MEAs were held at OCV with
hydrogen and air for 94 and 500 h. Pre-and post-test performance
and hydrogen crossover were determined and OCV decay and fluoride
emission were monitored throughout the experiments.
