The 18S rDNA sequences of different Myxobolus spp. deposited in the GenBank, among them the sequences of Myxobolus spp. originating from 23 Hungarian fish species, seemed
to prove that the majority of Myxobolus spp. infecting cyprinid fishes were host-specific, infecting only a single fish species, and that only M. pseudodispar Gorbunova, 1936 was known to form spores in at least five different species of the subfamily
Leuciscinae.
