Positive health beliefs about drinking alcohol seemed to improve
with grade level, including fewer responses to "hurts only if you drink
too much." This may indicate that as children get older they are getting
more information and/or becoming more aware. On the other hand, the
higher the grade level, the higher the percentages of children who reported
family members who drink. At the same time that children are
developing positive health beliefs and attitudes about not drinking alcohol,
they see family members who are drinking alcoholic beverages. It
would seem to be imperative, then, for the family to become involved in
the education of children regarding alcohol consumption and its possible
ramifications.
