In contrast, at the expense of larger,
highly valuable resources, the biomass of low-trophic-level species
such as small demersal and pelagic fishes increased drastically due
to the declining number of their predators at the currently high
fishing mortality; the small demersal fish and the small pelagic fish
increased by 120% and 80%, respectively. The biomass of benthic
crustacean and penaeid prawn showed a decline of 42% and 30%,
respectively (Fig. 3c).
