The case-skin mount, or flat-pelts technique , is very useful for small rodents when there is little time for standard mounting methods. Any small mammal intended for muscle study should be preserved in liquid. It is now preferable to preserve bats in liquid, although these may also be preserved in liquid and dried , using the “ wet and dry mount “ therefore, the technique used will depend on the specimen and the circumstances. Regardless of the technique, however, all mammals must be measured in a standard way to ensure an accurate record.
