This article examines the exploration of gay masculinity in the Green Lantern comic series. The authors claim that, in 2001, the comic began to explore this issue by introducing a new, homosexual main character (Palmer-Mehta & Hay, 2005). Palmer-Mehta and Hay thoroughly analyze both the storyline of the gay character and the reaction of the comic series' readership (2005). They conclude that "comic book culture will continue toaddress social issues and social policy, making thetension productive between comic art and publicsites of struggle" (Palmer-Mehta & Hay, 2005, pg. 401).
