Kiwis are birds cannot fly. They are found only in New Zealand Kiwis are about the size of chickens and range in weight from three to nine pounds (1.4 4.1 kg). Their wings are about two inches (5.1 cm) long, and are hidden under feathers. During the day kiwis sleep or hide in hollow logs or in burrows under tree roots. At night, they search for insects, worms, and snails by pushing their long, pointed bills into the ground. Kiwis are hunted and killed by other birds and animals. Their population has declined and they are now protected by law
