In this paper, we reviewed extant literature on cross-border M&A and then explored
the recently visible and interesting phenomenon of cross-border M&A process where
an increasing number of deals are happening between emerging market acquirers and
developed country targets. We discussed the strategic motivations, implementation
and post merger integration challenges, especially focussing on cultural and human
resource management issues. We suggested that multi-level due diligence and
involvement of key stakeholders at every step of the acquisition process would be
helpful in overcoming many of the challenges. Finally we emphasized the need for
novel indicators of acquisition success such as new and distinct capability development
post acquisition (Table V).
