The Koh Hong archipelago is a group of small islands between Krabi and the northern part of Phang Nga Bay, and east of Koh Yao Noi. Koh Hong, the main island is located around 24 nautical miles to the east of Phuket , It is the location of Than Bok Khorani National Park Ranger . This island can also be approached via a short cut between the two Koh Yao Islands subject to tide conditions. Via the short cut the island is about 16 nautical miles east of Phuket. The sea depth is about 10 -30 feet with many groups of fish. There is the curved bay at the north of the island. The inner area is of beaches and mangrove forests surrounded by limestone mountains making the island look like the room shape which is the source of the name Koh Hong or Room Island where kayaks can get through the inner part. During low tide, you can walk comfortably at this area where a lot of starfish is found. Another island nestled near Koh Hong is Koh Pak Bia of good swimming area and beautiful sandy beach, Koh Lao La Ding of wonderful beach and coral reefs Koh Hong has only one beach but it is recognized for being extremely beautiful, boasting fine white sand, coral and lots of varieties of tropical fish. Beach is framed by limestone rock formations which give it an enclosed feel. Coupled with the fact that there are seldom many people there, Koh Hong very much offers a ‘deserted island’ experience. Its name comes from an eroded group of caves in the middle of the island which harbours a large lake with a small passage to the sea. When the tide is high long tail boats are able to enter the ‘room’ and visitors can swim in around in crystal clear water with a depth of around one metre. Koh Hong is another collection point for the nests that provide the ingredients for bird’s nest soup
