Sample preparation for collection of volatiles by using simultaneous
distillation and extraction (SDE) were done by following the
method of Morita et al. (2002). Briefly, SDE was carried out in a
modified Likens–Nickerson apparatus. Dried squid fillets (12 g)
were sliced into fragments and immersed in 100 mL of distilled
water. The squid broth was steam-distilled at 120 C in oil bath,
and the distillate was extracted with 30 mL of dichloromethane
at 60 C. After cooling at ambient temperature for 10 min, the
dichloromethane extract was collected and dried over anhydrous
Na2SO4 for at least 12 h. Dichrolomethane (1 mL) containing
2.4 ppm methyl decanoate was added into the extract as the internal
standard for GC GC–MS analysis. The dichloromethane was
further removed at room temperature by a nitrogen-purge apparatus
(Shanghai ANPEL Scientific Instrument Co. LTD). Concentrated
extract was used for GC GC–TOFMS analysis.
