Potential of OPF juice as a carbon source
In this study, approximately 25% (w/w) of juice could be acquired from raw OPF through pressing. The sugars in the juice were readily fermentable which could eliminate the expensive pre-treatment cost of the biomass. On the other hand, the sugars in the bagasse part of OPF is stored in a rather complex form of carbohydrate component, which require pre-treatment in order to harvest the fermentable sugars.
