Just What Have They Been Smoking At Anfield?
Just what have they smoking at Anfield?
In particular, just what has Jamie Carragher been putting in his rollies as he sneaks out the back of the Sky Sports studios to have a quick dooby in the faint hope that it might slow his speech down just enough to enable the rest of us to understand a single word he`s saying, because quite frankly he`s been talking some utter nonsnse.
Not confident enough with trying to offer an original thought "Carra" is the latest "pundit" to chime in with the opinion that Arsenal will come up short again in the race for the title this season (and then let himself down by trying to put his own spin on it).
Carra reportedly said in the Daily Mail *Translated from mad-scouse* 'They had a good result against City in the Community Shield, but I look at the spine of the team and think: goalkeeper, good but not great, centre backs, good but not great."
'Arteta, holding midfield player and captain, good but not great. Same with the strikers. The spine comes up short. They spent more time at the top than any other team last season but still came up short."
'Why has Arsene Wenger not done what Mourinho has done? Why has he not bought a top goalkeeper? I wish Wenger would go out and buy a big goalkeeper, a strong centre back, a big midfielder and a decent striker and go for it.'
Has the bag of skunk that Carragher has so clearly been hogging made him forget that not only did Wojciech Szczesny finish as the joint golden glove winner but Arsene Wenger recently signed David Ospina? A man whose shot to save ratio was only bettered by Gianluigi Buffon for the whole of Europe last season.
Has the fat-ones he`s been puffing erased the memory of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker forming probably the best central defensive pairing in the PL (not to mention the signing of the very impressive Calum Chambers)?
Have Carra`s pipes and bongs killed so many brain cells that he didn`t even realise that not only did Arsenal secure the signature of Liverpool target Alexis Sanchez (still bitter about that one Jamie?) but Arsenal only "came up short" by 7 points last season (only 5 behind Liverpool) & they did so without Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott and Mesut Ozil for large parts of the season (not to mention having to play 12 more cup games than Liverpool in the process)?
Maybe after Liverpool "came up short" in every competition they entered last season (which wasn`t many) and then went and sold their best player only to replace him with Southampton, Carragher should be discuss Liverpool`s prospects for the season?
