RESPONSE Helping Babies Breathe (HBB). an evidence-based education Births in Homes program to teach basic neonatal resuscitation in limited resource countries, was launched in June 2010 as a global initiative of the American Academy of Pediatrics in collaboration with the World Health organization (WHO), the US Agency for International Development, Saving Newborn Lives, the National Institute of Child Health and Development. and a related newbor number of other global health organizations, with support rom the Latter Day Saints Charities and materials provided by ready noted to facility-based Laerdal Medical As. The program was piloted in 5 countries in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia and, as of June 2012, is now being implemented in 48 countries. Because the majority of newborns requiring ventilation will respond to bag-and-mask ventilation and do not require advanced resuscitation techniques, HBB, as a basic newborn resuscitation program, focuses on teaching resuscitation using a bag and mask.
