Correlation between removal rates
We tested the correlation between the removal of FKB
and untreated brood separately for the four different
untreated brood stages (Table 1). None were significant.
In addition, there was no consistent trend. The slope was negative for young and old larvae in open cells
and positive for eggs and capped brood.
Power analysis showed that the minimum sample
sizes (N2) that would have been required for the trends
we observed between the removal of untreated and
FKB were large. These (Table 1) ranged from 53 colonies
for old larvae in uncapped cells and for eggs. That
is, if the trends that we have observed were real, these
numbers of colonies would have been needed for them
to have been significant.
