For pumps that deliver from external fluid containers suspended above the pump, the administration set must protect against unintended gravity flow when the set is removed from
the pump. The set should also allow flow to be visually assessed (e.g., through a drip chamber). Administration sets should be resilient enough to resist damage from long-lasting
crimping from either clamps or the pumping mechanism. It is desirable for these administration sets to have an air-trapping reservoir or another means of removing air from the set.
Administration sets that are free of di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP) should be available.
Injection sites, when available, should be needleless.
