Self-efficacy is attributed with many stages, forms, and levels of
resilience. Described as the belief in one's own ability to achieve a goal
or overcome an event, it is often the reason ‘why some people snap
and others snap back’ (Earnovilino-Ramirez, 2007 p. 77; Rutter,
1993). This allows the individual to remain strong when faced with a
life changing event, such as being diagnosed with HIV.
