Talay Noi has a character all its own. It resembles a big marsh with shallow water. Water lilies and lotuses cover almost the entire surface, and almost 300 species of local birds make their homes there. March and April are the prime tourism months for Talay Noi, since they mark the height of the hot season and the water in the lake is not too high. This is also the time of year when the water lilies and lotuses bloom, opening before dawn and remaining open until about 10am. Besides admiring the colours of these flowers, visitors can also get such a close look at the great variety of birds that it is almost like sitting in a birdcage. Tourists who go to the lake during the rainy season, however, will find the water level high and the lotus plants concealed below the surface.
