The axillary nerve is
relatively fixed as it passes through the quadrangular space
by the deltoid muscle and postkerior ckord (Figure 8). The
location of the axillary nerve makes it particularly vulnerable
to downward traction and displacement of the humeral
head. This frequently occurs with anterior dislocations,
particularly subglenoid types.
