A series of follow-up CT scans showed that his liver abscess increased in size over a 4-month period in spite of antibiotics initially intravenously and then by mouth. His white blood cell count returned to normal, and his weight increased. Computed tomography guided drainage of his liver abscess was performed because of the increasing size of the abscess. Liver biopsy and cytological preparations showed acute and chronic inflammation and no evidence of malignancy. Cultures remained negative.
