Enchanting Samed
Resting at the top of the gulf just south of Bangkok, KohSamed is a dream destination for holiday makers to relax in the sun on the beautiful white sandy beach and crystal clear water without traveling too far. Travel by road for 3 hours plus 40 minutes on ferry to the island, you can enjoy this earth paradise.
KohSamed or Samed Island is famous for its fine beaches with white powdery sand. SunthornPhu, declared a world poet by UNSECO, once wrote about ‘KohKaewPitsadan’ with a beautiful sandy beach in his popular epic poem “PhraApaiManee” and it is believed that Samed is the island. You can spot some sculptures of mythical creatures like giants or mermaids on the island.
Besides the abundance of white sand and green jungle, Samed also has various types of activities that serves every lifestyle and interest. Whatever your speed, from pure relaxation to colourful nightlife, options abound at Samed especially on the popular “SaiKeaw” Beach that provides you a large choice of water sports, places to party, and accommodation that serves every need.
For those who enjoy tranquility, there are many choices for you. Next to SaiKaew Beach lies quiet AoPai (Pai Bay) where you can enjoy sunbathing or just simply taking wonderful photos. AoNoi Na, KhlongPrao Beach, AoChor and AoTantawan are all idyllic, quiet beaches. Another beach, AoWai, is for those who seek true seclusion, as the beach is quite remote so you can truly indulge in the beauty and tranquility of pure, nature.
As well as the beautiful beaches that Samed has to offer, the underwater world serves just as many delights, especially at AoPakarang (or coral bay). The best time for snorkeling or diving is around November and December.
Samed is accessible all year round, but the best time to go is from October to April when the sea is quite calm. May to September is monsoon season when the waves and wind are strong, and it usually rains frequently in August, so it's better to avoid going at this time, also check the weather forecast before traveling so you can enjoy the gorgeous drop in the ocean that is KohSamed at its best.
