It is important to include a reference to "Metropolitan Denver, Colorado" when describing the source of these samples. While the individuals who donated samples emigrated from many different locations of China, and while the samples are not genetically "atypical", they were not necessarily drawn to be representative of all Han Chinese people. The samples also should not be seen as representing all people who emigrated from China or all people in China, where there are 56 officially recognized ethnicities. The population should not be described as "Chinese American" out of respect for the expressed wishes of the donor community. The population also should not be described merely as "Asian" or "East Asian", terms that encompass many populations whose ancestors came from places other than China.
