no brain, but lots of tentacles. If theanemone simply stung everything ittouched, it would end up stinging itself every time the tentacles bumped intoeach other. The anemone recognizes it-self by the “taste” of its own mucus. When one tentacle touches another, theanemone detects the mucus coating onthe tentacles and refrains from stinging. Anemonefishes may be taking advantageof this. On the other hand, there is evi-dence that the fishes’ own mucus protectsthem against the anemone.
