On Sunday, Jewish people all stay at home and do not work, celebrating their holiday. So it was not till Sunday morning that the women in Jesus' family came to the tome with spices and ointment to preserve the body gone. Two angles were waiting in the tomb and the reminded the women that Jesus has prophesied that on the third day he would raise from the dead.
The women went back to the disciples and told them what they had seen, but the disciples did not believe them. Another version of the story of what happened on that Sunday morning is that only one woman Mary Magdalene, a former prostitute whom Jesus had converted, went to the tomb .When she found it empty, she was afraid someone had stolen the body. She went to ask the gardener what had happened .He reassured her, and then vanished, and she realized she had been talking to Jesus himself. The events of the day when Jesus rose from death are celebrated by Christian as the Festival of Easter.
Jesus appeared to his disciples several times more over a period of forty days. One days, Jesus and his apostles went to the Mount of Olives. He told them, "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in The name of the Father, and Son, and the Holy Spirit. And remember that I am always with you". As Jesus said this, He raised His hand and blessed His apostles. Then He went up to His father in the heavens. The apostles were not sad when Jesus left them, because they remembered His words, "I am always with you". and they knew that it was true. This event is known as the Ascension.
Before he disappeared, Jesus promised that he would send his disciples the help of the Holy Spirit from heaven. This promise was fulfilled seven weeks later, When the disciples were all together in a room. There was a sound of rushing wind and strange tongues of flame appeared over the disciples' heads. They than found that they were able to speak many difference foreign languages, so they could teach the Christian religion to people of all nationalities. This coming of the Holy Spirit is celebrated by Christians at the Festival of Pentecost, or Whitsun (the 7 Sunday after Easter) and the Sunday after Whitsun is called Trinity Sunday
