It was a cold dark night and Carol was lost. Tom checked the time. It was an hour later since Carol had gone.
He cried and his eyes were swollen, his cheeks were flustered and red, and his shirt was wet. He got up and went down into the kitchen and drank a glass of water.
The telephone rang. He ran to it and answered.
He wondered it was Carol's workplace. They had phoned earlier asking if she had come home yet. He had told them no' at the time.
They told his how a lady at work got injured and she went to drop him home, but she should have been back a long time ago.
He was as surprised as the person on the other end of the line.
He had hung up and called Carol, only to receive a dial tone. He called her about three times after that.
Tom had then turned as mad as a mother hen.
The time was 7:30 on a Monday morning. The sunlight filtered through the window.
