Magnesium stock solution (Merck, Titrisol 1.09949) which included 1.000±0.002 g magnesium as MgCl2 in 6% HCl was used for preparing the standard solutions. Nitric acid (Riedel-de Haen 07006) was used in the digestion of the samples. The extraction solvents used were chloroform (Merck 102431), carbon tetrachloride (Merck 102222), 4-methyl-2 pentanone (MIBK) (Fluka 58610) and n-octanol (Merck 100991). Sr(NO3)2 (Riedel-de Haen 13914) was used as a releasing agent. The resins studied were Dowex 50Wx8-40 (Sigma I-8880), a highly acidic cation exchange resin, and Amberlite XAD-4 (Fluka 06444), an adsorbent for InCl3 (Merck 12471). This was used for the blockage of an adsorbent surface against attacks of positively charged ions. The cation exchanger was regenerated by using hydrochloric
acid (Riedel-de–Haen 07102). Adsorption resins
included in the column were preconditioned with InCl3
(Merck 12471) and adjusted buffer (pH 5.5 ) solutions.
Distilled water was used to prepare all solutions. Seven
types of olives and five types of olive oil were investigated.
Olive samples taken from different areas near Balıkesir
(Turkey) were used without brining. Olive oil samples were
from olive oils commercially produced in Turkey.
