Olympia. THE NIKE OF PAEONIUS. Found in 1875 and pieced together many fragments. Parian marble. Height to top of head 7 ft. The statue is from a victory monument set up by the Messenians and Naupactians in honour of Zeus. It stood on a 30-ft.-high plinth opposite the temple of Zeus. Date, second half of 5th century.
