Behavioral factors. Behavioral research suggests that success begets success. Positive experiences tend to improve
perceived control and self-efficacy and to reduce perceived barriers, thereby motivating an individual to exercise. Starting
with challenging but achievable short-term goals, and progressing gradually, maximizes one’s chance of success. Sustained
exercise improves perceived efficacy.Past experiences, failures, and obstacles, as well as successes, also influence activity
preferences and should be part of an activity assessment.
