Moreover, enzymatic and
nonenzymatic assays of the components of the ASC-GSH cycle
and indexes of cell oxidative status, such as malondialdehyde
(MDA) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), were investigated and
correlated to the corresponding gene transcripts. The combination
of these approaches allows a clearer view of the defense response
of resistant and susceptible maize kernels in the metabolic perturbations
induced by several fungal infections.
