In Study I, employees completed the RSS based on their latest workgroup
experiences. In Study II, students completed the RSS as a post-questionnaire after
completion of projects. Limitations exist when people are asked to recall experiences.
One environmental factor is the time between actual behavior and the reporting of it.
Researchers may want to employ a methodology based on observation of groups or
add a set of open-ended questions to gather qualitative data along with the RSS to
more fully understand the complexities of relational satisfaction in groups. For example,
Keyton (2000) suggested a need exists to understand how relational issues affect
not just the members but group performance. The RSS would be a useful tool in testing
models addressing the relational side of groups.
