Preliminary analyses
Given the possible differences in participants who responded to an online survey and those who completed paper and pencil question- naires, we explored each of our samples for differences in the constructs under investigation. Differences were apparent on most of the measures (see Table 2). Specifically, participants who completed the online questionnaire reported less risky drinking than those who completed paper-and-pencil measures. Consistent with this, the online group reported better coping and reported greater social but less coping and enhancement motives for drinking. Further the online group generally reported stronger expectancies, but reported weaker sexual enhance- ment expectancies. No difference in expectations of increased confi- dence was noted.
