The West Mine belts terminate within 250 ft of the active mining faces. The belt are 36 and 42 in wide and travel 430 to 730 ft/min. Troughing idlers are spaced every 5 ft along the cable, and return idlers are spaced on 15-ft centers. Near the shaft, the main line belts discharge into a 125-ft storage area. From this point, the potash is transferred to one of two 120-ton ore pockets. These pockets discharge ore into skips, which are hoisted to the surface.
