Another “Best Choice” example of successful rebuilding, the black seabass trap fishery was recently upgraded when its stock – previously listed as over fished – was declared rebuilt. The rebuilding of this stock illustrates a success story for the Magnuson-Stevens Act rebuilding provisions and results in a green score for stock status as well as management. Trapsused in the fishery cause very little by catch, leading to a green score for by catch, and result in only moderate impacts on the sea floor habitat (earning a yellow score for habitat and ecosystem).
