Although its name refers to postnatal depression, this 10-item Likert-type measure has demonstrated validity (α=.82–.84) and has yielded a third trimester sensitivity of 76 % and specificityof94%(Berginketal.2011).Participantsindicatetheir agreement with statements of how they have felt in the past 7 days (e.g.,BI have felt sad or miserable^) based on a fourlevel response format, ranging from 0 to 3, with descriptions of response numbers tailored to the item. Total score, which can range from 0 to 30, was used as a continuous variable representing level of prenatal depression. Cronbach’s alpha for this measure in the current study was .85.
