This situation is a serious problem because the rate of female-headed households has consistently increased, from 12.8 percent in 1975 to 16.6 percent in 1995, and 19.5 percent in 2005 (Dong-A llbo, July 1, 2005)
While this dismal economic reality affects more migrant women than (native) Korean women, Korean women with higher education have not fared very well either.
