The availability of SWNTs that are now as bright as traditional dyes, but far more photostable, will invigorate both fundamental research and the development of SWNTs in a variety of technical applications. For example, the availability of bright SWNTs will allow researchers to revisit fundamental issues, such as fluorescence decay dynamics and kinetics of triplet states, and will also facilitate their use as light emitters in biological imaging,(6) single photon devices,(5) and photovoltaics.
