Provide Adjustability in the seat
• A second consideration is the reduction of disk pressure, which
can increase considerably with a forward tilt of the trunk.
• Reclining the backrest from the vertical also has a dramatic
effect in reducing disk pressures. Unfortunately, there is a
trade-off. With increasing angles, it becomes more difficult to
look down and perform productive work.
• Seat height is most critical, a seat that is too high will
uncomfortably compress the underside of the thighs.
• A seat that is too low will raise the knees uncomfortably high
and decrease trunk angle, again increasing disk pressure.
• In addition, armrests for shoulder and arm support and
footrests for shorter individuals are recommended.
• In general, the chair should be slightly contoured, slightly
cushioned, and covered in a breathable fabric to prevent
moisture buildup.
