The present reliability assessments were obtained
with a sample of 9 to 12-year-olds. Self-administered
tests may pose problems when younger samples are employed.
However, the present test was recently applied
to a sample of third grade children (8 to 9-year-olds)
by having the test administrator read the items and
the answer alternatives as the children went through the
test. This procedure required only a few more minutes
than usual and was apparently quite satisfactory. Also,
there seems to be little reason why the present test
could not be used with even younger children (kindergarten
to second grade) as an open-ended test. It would
have advantages over similar open-ended measures in
that the item content is standardized and the response
categories for open-ended coding are already provided.
Younger children's carefully probed answers could
easily be coded to reflect the four categories of Likerttype
agreement for each item
