2. Chinese commercial zone. Chinese people typically constitute 10-40 per cent of city residents, and ethnic Chinese capitalists now control much of the Indonesian economy. The Chinese commercial zone is a distinct highdensity district of traditional shop-houses and new shopping plazas that extends from the colonial city out along the inner part of the commercial spine.

4.International commercial zone. The international commercial zone typically runs along the main monumental boulevard and contains the major office buildings, convention centres, luxury shopping outlets, hotels and entertainment foci. Immediately alongside the zone are kampungs in which low-income housing is under threat from commercial expansion of the zone.
5.Government zone. Relatively distant from the colonial city, government offices are set in publie or semi-public open spaces that act as the lungs of the city. Elite residences are often located near by.
